EDIT:
Many rumors surround the significance of 420. None have been confirmed.
Yesterday's National High Five Day was MUCH more notable, because high fives ROCK!

Actually, April 20 has a lot of historical signifigance. It's Adolf Hitler's birthday (he's 118), Appolo 16 was launched, the Columbine shootings occured, and Jacques Cartier begins a voyage on which he will discover Canada and Labrador.johnbjuice wrote:2 Things -

But smoking pot is dumb.
Optomists say that the glass is half full.
Pessimist say that it's half empty.
Engineers say that it's twice as big as it needs to be.

my bad 70s lol
wiki wrote:It is widely accepted that in 1971, a group of teenagers at San Rafael High School in San Rafael, California, calling themselves "The Waldos", used to meet every day after school at 4:20 p.m. to smoke marijuana at the Louis Pasteur statue. The term became part of their group's salute, "420 Louis," and it eventually caught on more widely. Many cannabis users continue to observe 4:20 as a time to smoke communally. By extension April 20 ("4/20" in U.S. dating shorthand) has evolved into a counterculture holiday, where people gather to celebrate and consume cannabis.

There were death threats and stuff at my highschool, everyone was freaking out. Started by the U of Virginia hysteria, I guess some kids thought it would be funny to write "Next Columbine 4/20" on the doors of the bathrooms. There was a school meeting and people were getting scared. Of course, after the meeting there about 3x as many threats appeared on the bathrooms, including the rumored appearance of a hitlist. Like a third of the kids didn't come today. It's sad, really. I came though, had a chem lab that eventually got postponed.
As it turns out, it was a twisted scheme by the seniors to get off school. Only 50 or so of them showed up. Genius, but twisted.

If you want to know how I know this, I'm not a stoner, I just work at Dairy Queen, and some of my fellow employees tend to talk about this sort of stuff.
