Prototype laptop, anyone?

Heheh, so yesterday I got an email from a guy at work. For those that don't know, I work for the technology department at school. The department recently received a laptop from HP that we are considering using for the '08-'09 schoolyear. That's right, '08-'09, as in year after next. When I got this computer, I found out that this laptop is not even out yet, it's so new. There are a few stickers on the back, including one that says that it's property of Hewlett Packard, not for sale, prototype, etc.

The laptop itself? Amazing. 120GB HD, core 2 duo processor, bluetooth, all that fun stuff. It even has a fingerprint scanner and touch-sensitive controls for things like volume and wireless. (Edit) Oooh, one other thing: a mouse that stores and charges inside the PC card slot. When you want to use it, pull it out and prop it up with the stand pops out

@Nonsense Man: Vista is ok. The interface is nice once you get used to it, I'm just not a fan of the DRM stuff built in. It was actually my friend that tried putting Oblivion on it, and I believe he said that it crashes, unfortunately

Its a prototype, meaning a beta. For companies and such to get Beta's they have to sign an NDA, a Non disclosure agreement. when they sign it, only their employee's and such, can find out about the item and its specs and such.

You getting it, isnt illegal but if HP found out, they may seize the laptop.

A NDA infraction, is serious buisness. Especially for unreleased technology and such.

But, if wher ever you got i from, didn't sign a NDA, HP is an idiot .

HDC, Non disclosure agreements generally only apply to software or things that are secret, this is simply a test prototype unit i REALLY doubt he could get in trouble for it

Neat! Reminds me of my PowerBook 5300 seed unit, Powerbook XXXX. Even if there was a non-disclosure agreement on this thing, it never had to be returned to Apple and it was void over a decade ago. (Cosmetics aside it's the same as any production 5300, which everyone knows darn near everything about now.) It lived its life as a packet sniffer and was most likely reformatted several times before being scrapped in 2001.

Yours, on the other hand, may have been more secretive... If it truly is a prototype it's bound to have an active NDA... But I doubt you'll get in trouble unless you try to sell it or show it to Dell or something.

It looks, very scrappy, and ugly, like most windows laptops, nothing special there.....

I agree with harshboy, get a macbookpro, they run oblivion really well.
