PSP Or Nintendo DS?

What exactly does the GP2X do that PSP doesn't? I thought about getting a gp2x once, but I didn't see ANYTHING that my psp didn't already do. And the PSP has a pretty good commercial game library (I know some people would disagree with that) and wifi over the gp2x. I love linux and open source and all that, but the PSP just does a lot more.

And a 4 gig memory stick isn't $200, it's $72 for a sandisk one on newegg. There's not THAT big of a difference in pricing.

I personally prefer the PSP over the DS, also. For some reason, I don't find most DS games very fun. I only have 2 games for mine (Metroid Prime: Hunters and Advance Wars.) while I have 10 PSP games, and like all of them. I barely ever play my DS, really. But if you like DS games, then go ahead and get one.

well, you can get into ds homebrew with a slot 1 card with a gig of memory for 45 dollars, or just get a biodegradable psp and mod it. Your choice

Trust me, a PSP is way better than a DS. I'm a big nintendo fan boy, and I sold my DS to get a PSP.

For many reasons such as:
PSP Has better graphics
PSP has homebrew,
PSP can watch movies and music
Also, because PSP has Grand Theft Auto. (haha JKO, I likey GTA too. Good series. Nothing looks better in the morning than running over a cop in GTA.)

Also a PSP is more sexy.

I have a PSP and my wife has a DS. There are things that I like and dislike about both systems. As much as I hate to admin it, the DS's game library is much better than that of the PSP, but that's not to say that there aren't good PSP games out there. There's just a larger selection of DS games to choose from. In the end it all really depends on what you want. If you want homebrew and emulators, then the PSP (or the GP2X if you want something a little different) is the better platform. If you just want to play games and have a lot to choose from, then you're probably better off with the DS.

"+" marks are overall advantages, "o"s are good or bad depending on your point of view, and "-"s are disadvantages.


I'll break it down.

PSP:

+ Games look and sound better
+ Multimedia
+ Full speed PS1 emulation
+ Emulates nearly everything else up to N64
+ Built in web browser

o Commercial library

- Proprietary storage format
- Price
- Proprietary batteries
- You have to mess around with firmware up/down/left/dennis-grades

<b>DS:</b>

+ Huge commercial library
+ Touch screen, if that's your thing
+ Huge fanboy following

o Huge fanboy following

- Least powerful of the three, save for the GP2X's lack of a 3D chip
- Proprietary batteries
- You need to buy bypass and flash cartridges to play homebrew and "homebrew".
- Huge fanboy following
- Many games are rehashes or remakes of games you bought at least twice in the last 10 years


<b>GP2X</b>

+ Takes regular AAs and cheap SD cards
+ Designed for homebrew
+ Large developer community
+ You get the dev kit with the hardware
+ Firmware upgrades improve homebrew function

- Virtually no corporate support
- Poor battery life on most batteries
- Less than 5 commercial games
- No 3D processor so it can't emulate N64 and PSX very well

In short...

Buy a DS if you don't want to do anything but play commercial games
Buy a PSP if you want games, movies, music, videos, emulation, and web browsing
Buy a GP2X if you want games, movies, music, videos, most emulation, and to write your own games without messing with firmwares.

For me it's a tossup between the PSP and GP2X. The DS doesn't have any games that appeal to me, and honestly you're not getting much for your money because you have to throw more crap and money at it to do anything with it.

Gotta go with CTFan and bicostp; if homebrew and emulation is what you're looking for, then the GP2X is probably what you want to go with. If you want PS1 emulation, then the PSP is the only place you'll find it, but I don't think the PSP's homebrew/emu community is as strong as the GP2X's.

On another hand, the PSP uses proprietary (and expensive) storage media (UMD and MemStick) where as the GP2X uses cheapo SD cards; if you look hard enough, you can even get high capacity SD cards for free some places (promotional giveaways, but they're usually lower quality, off-brand cards).

Hmm, I was originally trying to offer support for the PSP, but I guess that didn't pan out so well.

Asking PSP or DS is like asking iPod or Zune. You will get different opinions on each one. They are both good, and I have both. I use my DS A LOT more.
