AdBlock Plus to remove ads from forum

The eBay search links were annoying me, here's how to get rid of them.*
First, install Firefox if you haven't all ready, then install the AdBlock Plus extension.

We will start here, before the blocking of the ads...

Now go to the Tools menu, and select the AdBlock Plus option.

Once you click on that, you will see this...

Add a filter, type the following text:

Code: Select all

#table(id=table2)

So it looks like this...

Press ok, press refresh...

They're gone, have fun!

um yah 6 lines of text and you flip out? Its not like the ads are inbetween the posts. Personally, If Ben needs the Ads to help run the site then I am all for them.

Agreed 100%. I was actually kinda surprised to see that a forum mod started this thread.

well at my low res its twelve lines of text and about twice the height of the logo which is annoying.

I'm low-rez also. It is also 2x the size of the logo. *Nods to Triton*

However I didn't even notice it, because I completely have filtered them out by adding 6 lines of code to my brain, or something. Har har.

Anyway it is ironic that I went to look at your imageshack pictures and it opened up like 3 popups (2 blocked) Sooooooo. Yea. Anyway.

I don't care about banners, as long as they aren't flashing things. I hate popups..... Unless I'm using a webapp that uses them.

I like the mvs search link, it's pretty handy. the rest get a little excessive, though.
I wonder if we have to buy something from the search, or just click through to generate money. and do that many people really visit the forum? I'd think that more aggressive adverts on the main page right before a new whatchamajiggy would generate the most traffic.

Yes in fact the top of the forum screen is no larger than usual. Honestly, if you enjoy these forums, which I pay for out of pocket, and come here everyday you really shouldn't complain about the ads. They support the person who pays for the forums, how is that bad?

If I was a real money grubber I'd have pop-unders, "page loading" ads and the dreaded mouse-over randomly highlighted words linking to Windows Live searches. Now THAT's BS.

you know if it doesn't load the ads Ben doesn't get to drink beer.
