Dude, our dream has come true.

Includes but not limited to: SNES, Genesis, Sega CD, PlayStation 1, Nintendo 64, Dreamcast, Game Gear and I guess the Virtual Boy.

It's the start for a FPGA based SNES clone (possibly to come out being a SNESoac unit)

Like the FC twin but cheap and without the nes portion. A $30 SNOAC the size of a noac, roughly?

Well it looks far from done. But I can imagine all of our noacs were produced like this. And you know what that means!

This isn't a mass-producible IC like a FOAC/NOAC which integrates clones of all the NES/Famicom hardware on hard silicon. This is a general purpose FPGA being programmed to imitate the SNES through software, like physical emulation. While, with enough knowledge of the SNES hardware the results can be near-identical to the real system, there won't be a product you can turn off an assembly line in large numbers. It'll be a lot of expensive, generic FPGA boards (which are fairly large to begin with in this case), which will all need to be individually programmed. You could rig up 1 or 2 of them with the proper FPGA board and the program this guy is putting together but it won't produce a 'SNOAC' or whatever you want to call it.

You'll see a 'SNOAC' when the HK pirate game industry decides it's economical to mass produce such a thing. It has to be practical for them to do so, and I don't believe it is right now since the market for bootlegging of NES/FC carts was alway far bigger than SNES/SFC to my knowledge-- not just there but worldwide.. quite big in places like the former USSR and South Korea. Hence why the FC Twin is being so heavily marketed in the US and Japan. I doubt they're selling many of them domestically.

Well, with the gate code for the FPGA clone, you could (with the right investments, etc) have it translated to an actual IC production. Quite expensive though I'd say, so unless the overhead is worth it, snes clones will continue being multi-chip ones.

Stil they did something similair for the c64 dtv. Altough that was not a cheap pirate.

C64 DTV wasn't a pirate clone. That, along with the Intellivision ::barf:: DTV, were both officially licensed hardware by the parent companies that bought out Commodore and, presumably, Mattel (which made the Intellivision, no?).

Speaking of the C64 DTV, has anyone else here made a portable out of one? I cobbled one together a while back, they're pretty easy to hack. The older ones lacked floppy support, I believe, but the latter versions could interface with a floppy drive (1541 and 71, IIRC).
