a big freeware games thread

Post by yalborap »

I had to make this. forgive me.

freeware games. it almost seems like an oxymoron. "free games?! well those can't be very good! who would give something good enough to be PAID for away for FREE?!" kind, kind indie developers, that's who.

"their games CAN'T be good though. can they?"
well, how about marathon, released for free by bungie recently?

"my god! I've seen the light! show me more!"
gladly.

the marathon series. a true classic. when PC people were playing doom, mac people were playing this. good plot, great gameplay, dual weilding...it's a wonderful classic. to run it you will need to get aleph one, then the marathon files from bungie and put them together in one folder. it's worth it. you'll find more details here.

super cosplay war ultra. one of the best freeware fighting games around. unlike most, where your characters have special moves based around their fighting style and design, this one has characters turning into characters from games and anime to do moves. for example, one character, Chung, turns into naruto characters for his moves. you can get this one here. it should be noted that all mirrors for the final version seem to be down, but you can get an earlier version that plays just fine.

ABA games shooters. these are top of the top of the line in vertical shooter awesomeness. torus trooper is kind of 3d and will make you feel like you played a curtain shooter on acid, and you'll love it. tumiki fighters is an insane game where destroyed enemies and chunks of bosses will power you up when they touch you, and fall off when shot. rrootage is basically all the boss fights of a curtain shooter, without the stuff inbetween, and it's pretty awesome. pascal 47 is incredibly fast, and is a blast to play. you can find these beautiful creations here.

you can find more freeware game links at freeloader.1up.com .

okay, discuss freeware games, post links to them, etc.!

trust me, there are some damn good freeware games available. super cosplay war ultra is probably my favorite, of course, but that's because it's the only game where I get to smoothly go from the chidori to the initial lotus and follow it up with the uzumaki naruto combo.

no, you're not supposed to understand that.

Game: One Must Fall 2097
Category: Fighting

Well some of you uys might remember this cool dos game years back.

Well if you don't know the full version has been released :)

This game was so cool back then and it still is to me :) the game is based on robots you chose which robot you want and you control it.

Now these robots are ment to be a few stories tall and you fight in some wierd places (eg. an electricty plant where if u get them on the side fence they get shocked)

This game has great graphics and really cool moves it's not another street fighter clone and it's really great i reccomend you check it out.

Marathon is awesome, I bought the originals a little while ago, along with a bunch of other old Bungie games, love 'em all.

Game: Liero
Category: Action

Well this is THE BEST GAME EVER

Yes serious you have to download this it's under 400kb so get it NOW

This game is worms but it's all out carnage

You dig swing fire shoot explode and burn your way through the soil to your enemy

You have 40 weapons which include Napalm bazooka and a crap load more.

You must check this out and set the blood setting to 500%

This game is cool in the first few mins there will be no soil left and you will be throwing HUGE napalm bombs at each other.

This game is good with the cpu but a friend makes it better

don't let the graphics fool you as once you start shooting you will think they look great

Lots of good stuff there. I highly recommend Jumper and Jumper 2. Beware, they are extreemly addictive and unbelievably frustrating.
