I have the 8 megabit Comcast too......dumb PA. I'll edit my post with a speedtest. Most of my downloads never go past 1 MB (Like 999 kb is what i usually get all the time, except on torrents)

Just use a neighbours WAN. Worked for me till we moved to the middle of nowere.
Info on the ping. For me, anything above 100 is bad, amost unplayable, but for others it is fine.

I feel slow.
But hey, DSL is cheaper than cable stuff. (And we don't have cable TV either, but that's another story. OTA TV FTW!)
EDIT: But I'm faster than SS!
EDIT numero dos: WTF? The site says I have 1304 down, but the graphic says 1072.

I'm happy with it. The highest I've ever seen on a different forum was a guy going at 28Mbs. I think like 10Mbs upload too.
I lika Pacman.

DSL is fast enough for me. We definitely won't get cable because Comcast gets enough of our money already. ($57 just for the extended basic cable package! It's CRAPCASTIC!
)
Can't wait for fiber-to-the-home to make its way out here though...

i usually get 8-12000 Kb/s up here at Austin. But this week my alloted bandwidth got used up so I'm stuck on snail dial-up.
