How to play Guitar Hero!
OK, as some of you may know, some of the members on the board have recently played/gotten Guitar Hero 2. I'm good at Medium, but at hard and expert, it's another story. I can handle the speed, but it's the fifth fret button that kills me. Which brings me to ask on how you guys play. Do you like shift your entire hand or just extend your pinky...or BOTH?!?!?!
That, and do you think that Harmonix is milking the Guitar Hero craze...with all the ports and all (Wii, DS, god knows what, etc.)...
Toodles.

It's not really something I can explain that well, but it might have something to do with already having the coordination from playing guitar. All I can say is to try and play without looking down at the frets, because a lot of people I've seen tend to do this. Instead, try and just find the buttons by knowing that there is a raised bump on the yellow button. I don't know... it's hard to give advice on this...

Both. Sometimes I'll use my pinky... but frequently I find myself just moving my hand all over the fret board using only three or even two fingers.
I can pass any song on expert except Jordan... >.> Six is easy for me... I don't know what everyone else is talking about... many people say Six is HARDER than Jordan!
Anyway, during solos, I actually only use one finger a lot of the time.
I dunno... I find it easier just to slide from green to orange rather "trill" with my four fingers and slide to orange with my pinky (for example).
My brother only has 11 songs left to 5 star (on expert), including extras. We play under the same game, so I was actually first to 5 star Crazy On You and Stop... but he's better than me on pretty much every song except Six at this point.
He complains that it's tiring on his hands but I played it 4 times in a row just last night only to get a higher score EACH TIME and have my hands no more tired out than they were before... but I play real guitar and Stepmania a lot too, so...
Anyway, he always uses all four fingers, and he uses hammer-ons all the time too... this is the way to go, but I just haven't been able to adapt to it yet... I'm getting there, though.

Depends on the "notes" coming at you....if there are a lot of notes coming from the left, just extend the pinky for the occasional orange ones, and if there are a lot of notes on the right, extend your index finger instead.
Without games my life would have no meaning.
Well, I guess it would, but it would be a lot less fun!!!!!!!

lol, it's really weird. Say you're playing Sweet Child O' Mine, and like in the intro, you have the occasional orange fret...I'm cool with that. But like in Dead, when you CONCSTANTLY moving your fingers up and down the fret board and then the speed doesn't help either...that's the funny part lol. But I guess you gotta rock one way or another.

Yep, you can see the full list (with differences between the two version) here.Electric Rain wrote:Ooooohhhh..... you guys must be talking about a new song in the 360 version, yes?
Anyway, to keep this from going wildly off topic, I haven't even gotten to hard yet, still trying to beat it on medium. I definitely think it's all about how you hit the buttons though, and I most likely am not doing it in the best possible way. Sometimes I'll use my ring finger to got back and forth between yellow and blue, rather than shift my entire hand down. Just need to keep playing more until I find something that works for me, I suppose.

When we first started playing the first Guitar Hero, we started on medium. We blew through that, IIRC, and I wanna say we skipped right to expert after that. When we got the second one, we had played the first one enough to where we started right out on expert. My point? Umm... I'm not entirely sure... sorry.
But, I can tell you that it's probably best not to "learn" to play Guitar Hero with only 2 or 3 fingers. It's best to start out using all four, that way you're not a stranger to the idea when you get into the harder songs that... pretty much REQUIRE you to use 4 fingers. Just think about songs with 3-fingered chords.
Edit: Wait... when did you come back to us, Black Six?!
