I don't know if this is the right place to post this but I have a favor to ask someone.
I was once installing modchip on my gamecube, but accidentally broke a capacitor while doing it.
I have already asked on another forum, but they said it was a smd capacitor and i would have to have a working gamecube to check what kind of capacitor I have broken.
Here comes the question: would someone with a game cube check this for me so I can buy another one for replacement?
The code of the capacitor is C311.

It's from the controller board of the laser unit. I broke it while installing a XenoGC modchip.
The GC turns on, but there's no response of the laser unit. I can access the BIOS if I want, but if I try to play a disc, it does't work.
I have finally found a picture on the web, I'm sure this might help you figure out my problem.
It's pretty easy to see; It's the one on the upper side of the XenoGC chip.

since most capacitors in computers are connected between a power rail ground, that is a pretty dumb idea.ShockSlayer wrote: You cant.

In general, capacitors appear as an open circuit to DC power... short circuit is not the answer.
as for that cap... its underneath the modchip... (top right). Id say theres a 50% chance that it was a useless decoupling cap and that something else is wrong, like the modchip isnt in right. Ive popped caps off things like ps2s before and it still worked fine.
anyways, Im assuming it looked the same as all the other ones. Unfortunately, theres no way to tell the value of one of those teeny brown caps without a capacitance meter. I think its safe to assume that it is somewhere in the 10n - 1u range, you dont usually use anything bigger than that in this kind of application. Things arent very sensitive to cap values either, and the tolerance is usually 20% anyways, so you probably dont need to worry about not putting the exact same one in.
if you really wanted to get sneaky, you could go into the cube, find a real decoupling cap thats close to another one anyways, and steal it for over there.
of course, thats just making up more things that could be broken with your cube.
