1080i and such

Alright, I know what 1080i/p means and all of that, but does 1080i use half the amount of bandwidth as 1080p? Or in other words, "540p"? It makes sense to me that interlaced would be half. I'd just like some clarification.

You've got the wrong idea here, look at Wikipedia under "Standard resolutions", and then go from there.

from the article on interlacing:

Interlaced video reduces the signal bandwidth by a factor of two, for a given line count and refresh rate.

It definitely uses less bandwidth, but it can't really be equated to anything. 540p, if it existed, would have a different number of horizontal pixels than 1080i, so the bandwidths would not be equal.
