Simple Power regulator question

are the 7805 and LM7805 the same? (In output voltage and input voltage and amps)

yes but you cant tell things like voltage and current ratings just from the "7805" label, which is used by like 20 different companies. to be sure you need the datasheet from the manufacturer.

but in general they are 7.2 - 35v in , 1amp i think. The current rating can be different.

Ah.. well, as far as I knew, 7805 ALWAYS indicates 1 amp. 78M05 is 500mA (M=Medium), and 78L05 is 100mA (L=Low).

Nevermind, I thought wrong. Its is 1A.

You're probably right. The point is

"always check the datasheet for maximum damage"
