good media playing handheld

it comes with software that syncs the data to it, its a good thing though cause it somehow compresses the data to where it takes forever to fill the thing up, I have 153 jpegs, 124 mp3s, 6 full length dvds, and 8 episodes of heroes on mine and it still only takes up about 3.5 gigs on the hard drive, i have only had mine a short time your questions about it would probably be better answered at one of the zune forums as those folks have had theirs for a long while and have done all kinds of stuff to them

This may just be from my experience, but I found the Zune to be a pain in the butt to use. I was filling my friends' Zune with 10 seasons of South Park and 4 seasons of Family Guy, and MediaCoder can't transcode into a format that the Zune software likes, so I had to get some lousy Zune-only transcoder off the internet and transcode them into compression-o-matic-looking WMV. Altogether, the shows took up about 15GB. To me, the episodes look like absolute excrement, but hey, my friend's happy, so whatever.

I prefer my GP2X for video (aside from the SD-only storage, but a 2GB card can work wonders) as it plays popular fomats such as DivX and Xvid. And if a video doesn't work, I can just throw it in MediaCoder set to Xvid video LAME MP3 audio 2-pass, and it works great.

Keep in mind this is just my opinion, and I didn't get a chance to poke around much with my buddy's Zune.

I have 2 2 gig sd cards for my gp2x but I just don't find that as enough memory for all the media I have.

I thought similar to that at first, then I realized that I don't need all my stuff with me all the time. (A few movies and an episode of South Park or two can occupy me for quite some time. And when I've watched those, emulator time!)

Just throwing this out there, but I find that a little known PDA type device called the Tapwave Zodiac does all I need it to. It can take in 1 SD/MMC card and another slot for SDIO type devices and cards. I have mine overclocked using the lightspeed device to 350Mhz and have 2-4GB cards on it. You can get internet with a wi-fi card. Multimedia wise, with TCPMP(free) you can get MPEG1,2 and 4, AVI, Divx and Xvid. Music can take mp3 and with proper plug-ins FLAC files.

The price is very reasonable for what you get, around $100 for the unit on ebay in pretty good condition. I paid a total of about $250 for a completely crazy unit with 8GB of memory, Wifi, a metal case, and a bunch of applications. I'm not going to lie, I used to have an Ipod Video and a PSP, Zodiac (if you know how to use it) is the most useful tool/gaming device I have seen yet, other that those pocket PCs.

This takes more formats has a bigger screen and is tons cheaper.

I just need to get the extended battery for it now.

175.99 with the rebate ( its easy )
And I am loving the player.
