good media playing handheld

I am looking for a good hand held media device that has at least 10 gigs or more of storage and can play most popular formats of audio and video. I have somewhere between 150 to maybe 300 to spend ( depends on how much cash is in my room now any how much my birthday rakes in ). So, does anyone have any suggestions ?

The Archos 504, iaudio x5, zen vision m, and toshiba gigabeat all come to mind.
And you can run rockbox on the gigabeat and x5!

From my fairly extensive search for a good multimedia player, I have to say the Cowon X5 is probably one of the best options out there (I don't have enough monies for it right now but it's still my first option). IMHO if you get and X5 it's worth getting one of the "L" version with the extended battery life (slightly thicker case though).

The screen looks kinda small, why not just use your GP2x or get a PSP? You'd need more memory if you wanted a lot of video, but you can actually see the screen.

Well I have a gp2x but I don't wanna spend allot buying tons of memory cards.

And for the price is a video ipod worth it ?

for something compairable to the video ipod i suggest the creative zen vision M you can get a 30gb one for under 200 on ebay and they support most common video types

I'd say a Creative Zen Vision or Vision W would be best, with the Vision M you still have the tiny screen.

I like to think so, but then I'm biased on the subject. My video ipod has become almost a permenant fixture next to the TV, where it serves me healthful portions of Futurama on a regular basis. Then again mine was a gift and, as I said, I'm biased towards it after months of constant use.

Good battery life

FLAC support

USB host mode (Not good for much bu it's still nice)

Hasn't it been hacked to hell ?

no not really, the only real hacks for it out there right now is to make it show up as a portable hard drive, eliminate the guest sync, and put in a bigger hard drive but there is a group working on getting linux to work on it and other hacks coming down the line.

So will it show up as a removable disk drive, or will I need to use software to put music on it ?
