analog stick swapping

I'm interested in replacing the mech in an offical (hall effect for analog) DC pad with a more standard pot based setup.

Would this be possible by measuring the resistance figures used by the original equipment and altering the resistance from the new analog mech using resistors and feeding the output into the same points?
