Gp32 or Gp2x

Hey. I'm thinking about getting a gp32 or gp2x, instead of that noname handheld, as ofcourse you guys are right. The noname hand held seems cheap.

This is in a different thread, as its about a different subject.

a few things, that I must ask.

1) Anyone know where I can get a used gp32 or gp2x for around $130? (I don't really want to spend more than $140, also ebay is useless)

2) Is there a homebrew community for the two gp's?

3) Can both Gp's play mp3s and videos?

4) What can the two gp's do? (Like technology wise, can they play roms? ect ect)

5) How good is the graphics and quality of the two gp's?

why not just go check out gp32x.com for a while? You should find everything you need within a short distance of there.

I don't care at all for either system, but they do for some reason. And to head the question off, no I won't sell mine.

Please SEARCH Google/Yahoo/AltaVista/Dogpile next time! Any basic GP32/GP2X site would easily answer your questions.

You definitely want to get a GP2X over a GP32 because it's newer and more powerful. (It will emulate anything up to and including Playstation 1. (Granted PS1 emulation isn't the best... but nearly everything up to Neo-Geo MVS games are full speed.)

You'd be limiting yourself a lot if you got a gp32, just save up for a GP2x or PSP, you'll need to save for a card anyways.

For me, it's been everything GP2x I just got Quake and Quake 2 running on it, as well as PSX. That's in addition to the already full speed SNES, NES, Neo Geo, Genesis, Sega CD, and DOS.

there is so much misleading/wrong about that statement that I don't even know where to begin correcting it.

If you're looking for a handheld with a large variety of polished titles in a system that's durable, comfortable, reliable, and easy to use that also correctly emulates systems created before it, so do I. In my opinion GP2X fills none of those requirements. oh boy, if I overclock until my system crashes every couple minutes, I get to use a frameskip of 2 instead of 5...

still with the limited options presented, gp32 or gp2x the choice is obvious...unless you really like low capacity smartmedia cards, which was one crippling flaw they didn't fix in any of the hardware revisions. At least GP2X can play quite a few types of media files well with both first and third party applications. As a media player it's not half bad.

Now. Im stuck between a PSP and a Gp2x.

The psp is like $35 dollars cheeper, comes with 1 GB card, come with wall adapter. (No USB, but I have one )

So, how is the gp2x better than a psp?

Does the 2x have a bigger homebrw community, or something?

don't get me wrong, 2x has it's positives--it has the best screen and onboard speaker set I've ever seen on a handheld so it makes the best portable media player out there.

I just think that terms like "fullspeed" emulation often leave out a lot of negative information when referring to the 2x. lack of sound emulation, frameskip, game specific hacks, overclocking, etc.

for example, I've never tried the new GBA emulator, but comments like "I've never had trouble with one specific game" has a lot of room in it to leave information out as far as the quality of GBA emulation. I do want to give that one a try however.
