i disagree on the bang for the buck bit, you can get a technically equal windows laptop (or desktop vs imac, same argument) for more likely than not several hundreds of dollars less

Just go with the AptonBook XL Hel-80.
I have one, and its amazing.

Maybe yours is the dual videocard version. 1 Video Card for desktop, minesweeper, internet ect ect. And 1 videocard for gaming :)

Thats what mine is.

All right, so I guess it's now down to just pure recommendations.

I could go the Dell way and 'custom build' it, but it gets really pricy for some fishy reason...I'm serious, all I wanted was like 512 MB. of memory and that cost me +175.

Or I could search for a nice one. I need some Core 2 Duo with >2.0 GhZ, 1-2 Gb of Ram, and some decent video (128-256, it's own, not integrated), with a purposeful DVD/CD reader and burner.

The hunt begins...off to Newegg....or somewhere else!

If you want a dell only upgrade the parts you cannot upgrade yourself, like the video card. Buy additional ram and etc from Newegg.

Ugh, too tired to search anymore. I'm gonna hold it off to you guys, for I don't know what gives me the best bang for the buck. Just give your vote to which is good I guess.

Door #1: iBUYPOWER HEL80S-N NoteBook

Door #2 Sony VAIO BX Series VGN-BX660P46 Notebook

Door #3: Lenovo 3000 N Serious N100 Notebook (Note: This got a 6.7 on Cnet)

Who the heck is iBuyPower? :?

I'd recommend either the Vaio or the laptop formerly known as ThinkPad.

If you're just after a simple cheap laptop for work (no gaming... gaming on a laptop is pointless because they're always underpowered), look for a Toshiba Sattelite 4000 series. Good luck finding one in the stores, though. They sold out about 6 years ago! :P

In all seriousness, if you have the budget get an HP Pavillion. Mine's about a year old. Nothing special but it's a solid machine.

My guess is the same as yours "Who the heck IS ibuypower", but apparently the lenovo has less battery life. Maybe I should just go with the Vaio.

The Vaio only has XP pro, and the graphics card is a bit weaker. Battery life sucks no matter what when you're gaming. I think the ibuypower one looks best, they are a custom computer company, like alienware.

Get a macbook if you are cheap. Or a macbook pro if you feel expensive.

Both rock for games, internet and video. Both look cool, and are vitually indestructable.

Mac.
