i disagree on the bang for the buck bit, you can get a technically equal windows laptop (or desktop vs imac, same argument) for more likely than not several hundreds of dollars less

All right, so I guess it's now down to just pure recommendations.
I could go the Dell way and 'custom build' it, but it gets really pricy for some fishy reason...I'm serious, all I wanted was like 512 MB. of memory and that cost me +175.
Or I could search for a nice one. I need some Core 2 Duo with >2.0 GhZ, 1-2 Gb of Ram, and some decent video (128-256, it's own, not integrated), with a purposeful DVD/CD reader and burner.
The hunt begins...off to Newegg....or somewhere else!

Ugh, too tired to search anymore. I'm gonna hold it off to you guys, for I don't know what gives me the best bang for the buck. Just give your vote to which is good I guess.

Door #2 Sony VAIO BX Series VGN-BX660P46 Notebook
Door #3: Lenovo 3000 N Serious N100 Notebook (Note: This got a 6.7 on Cnet)

Who the heck is iBuyPower?
I'd recommend either the Vaio or the laptop formerly known as ThinkPad.
If you're just after a simple cheap laptop for work (no gaming... gaming on a laptop is pointless because they're always underpowered), look for a Toshiba Sattelite 4000 series. Good luck finding one in the stores, though. They sold out about 6 years ago!
In all seriousness, if you have the budget get an HP Pavillion. Mine's about a year old. Nothing special but it's a solid machine.
