Damn, just GC emulators barely even work! (also you can't even use your discs w/o ripping them through a broadband adapter & Phantasy Star Online.

that's not entirely true anymore. you can rip them to SD now using homebrewed software (link)atari2600a wrote:Damn, just GC emulators barely even work! (also you can't even use your discs w/o ripping them through a broadband adapter & Phantasy Star Online.
Getting back on topic, assuming PC processing power doubles every 3 years or so, and nintendo's processing power seems to be behind that curve, wii seems the most likely of the new consoles to be emulated, especially with the work being done on it's most obvious copy protection, the crazy controller. I wouldn't hold my breath until last gen starts working, though. for that matter I haven't yet seen a psx or n64 emu that I'm really happy with. but how closely is Wii related to GC in terms of hardware? has nintendo even released partial specs on it?

The Wii is basically an overclocked Gamecube. It uses the same technology just at a much faster clock speedReaperman@home wrote:that's not entirely true anymore. you can rip them to SD now using homebrewed software (link)atari2600a wrote:Damn, just GC emulators barely even work! Sweet, I think I might finally get a Wii mod chip !
Like the Xbox 1 Modchips where you had to friggin solder like 20 or more wires, and its barely did anything.

An emulator emulates the hardware and the software of the emulated device.
Nobody knows how the Wii works, and even less knowledge of the system software and the games.
Making an emulator of the Nintendo Wii is not possible, since we are unable to make homebrew. If we can make homebrew on the Wii, we can make an emulator with basic functions.
As for running games, that's impossible.
All software on the Wii is signed, which means we need to be able to sign code to execute it... Unless Nintendo willingly give us their private key to sign code, we're not likely to crack their private key for a good 100 years or so, making it impossible.
Gamecube IPL have been dumped, and emulators have been made to emulate the Gamecube, but they're still far from perfect. How do you propose they make a Wii emulator without the Wii's IPL?

The gamecubes software and IPL isn't signed... The Wii's are. How do you propose cracking the encryption?atari2600a wrote:The same way we did with the GameCube!EnterTheHatrix wrote:An emulator emulates the hardware and the software of the emulated device.
