You people seem to know some programming.

If you know how to program and like RTS games keep reading please!

I have always wanted to start a project making the ultimate RTS game! One where you need strategy not just massing 10,000 tanks! Some cool stuff like the ability for your soldiers to dig trenches instead of standing out in the open like a bunch of sniper targets! Engineers that can set explosive charges on bridges and set them off right when the enemy is driving across, or making a ramp up the side of a canyon wall by blasting it to bits! Here is how I see a cool game, one you can not just win by building so much of one thing it cant be stopped...

You start with a prebuilt base and can only add to it certain buildings! Defenses, walls, and such things that you should be able to rebuild. For money, credits, or whatever you call them you gather supplies in a kinda different way. Superweapons need a rethinking too.

Ok ill start off with supplies, when you want to build more tanks, you do not just go out and find a pile of money sitting in the middle of nowhere. You have to destroy a enemy thank or building and pick up the wreckage than it is taken to your base and melted down so you can use it to make your own tanks and such!

Superweapons, I can't think of a way to make them less gay right now but ill work on it.

Infantry, more than just cannon fodder, they will be able to dig trenches, steal enemy tanks and take over buildings. Snipers, rocket guy's, engineers, and the basic rifle infantry. The sniper can be placed in a location than he will disguise himself and blend it, if you look hard enough you can still see him, he will have the ability to kill the driver of lightly armored vehicles, and see farther than anyone else. Then engineer can build gun emplacements which he or or another soldier can take over and use to fire at the enemy, he can also set explosives on bridges or terrain obstacles to "get them out of the way".

You start with a prebuilt base but it is not stuck like that, you can still make automated defenses and other buildings. You start with the basic things, a construction building, a few defenses in key places, and some power structures and a factory(makes tanks and refines supplies). Than you can add your own stuff. Or another way where you start with a construction building and make EVERYTHING.

If anyone is interested in helping than GREAT! I will work on refining my ideas to everyones likings than I can get a forum or something setup.

Sounds good, there needs to be a perfect RTS. I can't really help with coding, but I always encourage people to follow their dreams'n stuff, so I guess I'll try to help some how. But I'm only medium level coder. I can't do much on my own. But if you need advice or something, let me know! :D

The idea of Nuclear Bombs having sexual relations with other Nuclear Bombs amuses me.

But being serious, Yeah go for it. Sounds pretty good.
Meh... So I don't post much?

I don't like pre-built bases. Start with one construction unit that can make many basic structures, and do what you want. Pre-built bases always seem to have something in the most retarded place possible.
What time period will this take place, now, WWII, future, and if future, what technologies will be available? The changeable terrain would be awesome, thats a feature often forgotten or made extremely limited.
And a personal preference of me, is not needing a certain unit to build others. Example: You build factory A, but you can't make unit B in factory A until you make other building C. That drives me crazy, I hate having to build another building in order to use an existing one. The add-on buildings in Starcraft are ok, if you still want to have something like that.
Don't have too many resources. Maybe have one or two havestable resources and one that you build something and it doesn't need harvesters running back and forth, like power. I like the idea of using wreckage to make your stuff, reclaiming dead stuff is always nice.
Of course, some of the stuff I've said goes again your idea. I personally like massing huge armies and waging war for several hours with constant combat and you speakers about to explode the whole time from all the gunfire and explosions.

All the RTS games I ever play online all the other people do is rush you as fast as they can with all the most overpowered stuff and you are trying to actually build a base so you get easily ownt and the game lasted 5 minutes no fun. This will only be a dream if nobody can help me.

It will be in the future not like 10000 years in the future but like the year 2500 when people are just getting spaceships and the such. Also the terrain yes! Maybe you can build trenches and stuff, and when you need to cross a river you can build a bridge of your own if one is not there! When you want to make something somewhere but you cant because their is a silly rock you can blow it up or something! Cool stuff like that!

Starcraft was great, cept you couldn't remove trees and rocks and such.

Please don't make the same mistake.

Do it in somthing that can be ported to mac / linux easily.
