Vintage Hardware

Post by Mario »

Got a couple questions:

1. Who has made thier own NES cartridge with thier own game on it,
2. Who has ever played <a href="http://www.vintagecomputing.com/index.p ... /63">Super Mario Adventure</a>, and
3. Who would want to program Super Mario Adventure into an NES cartridge?

Ever since I played Super Mario Adventure (http://www.vintagecomputing.com/index.php/archives/63), I thought, "This would be so cool if I could play this on my NES." If you've never played SMA, I really think you should. It is the BEST game ever, once you start playing it you will be hooked.
I think it would be really awesome if somebody programmed SMA into an NES cartridge, so it could be played on the NES.
(guide on programming NES cartridges <a href="http://www.raphnet.net/electronique/nes ... p">here</a>.)
If anybody is up to the challenge, please tell us! That would be so cool...

Challenge? If it's a .bin/.nes file or is patched into one, you just load it up onto a ROM and voila.

Yes, but the website says that the most amount of memory you can have is 256 kb. The .nes file is 421 kb. Oh, wait... the memory is split into two halves, which means you could have a game of up to 512 kb... I think? :?
Well, if that's the case, why doesn't somebody create it, because I don't have the time or money. I might buy it off of you if the price is low enough... :)
I still think that would be really cool, though.

That's what memory mappers are for.

A what?
And besides, I was just wondering if anybody wanted to do this, because I have neither the time nor the money to do this. I just thought it would be cool...
I guess this topic will just sink into the last page. *SIGH*...

I thought there was a flash cart somewhere that can do all that and more...or was it a home made dev kit...

Oh, & the NES can natively support 2 16KB ROMS, which is 32KB. (I'm actually looking at the memory map right now, which convenientally was already in my right pocket)
