I'm thinking a design contest will be next, to raise general interest in contests, because everyone can participate, not just people with supplies.

Design what? I have an idea, and you can even make it if you so please. And it's simple.
A design contest would suck, I wouldn't participate in it.. Lets face it. The only people participating are the forum dwellers anyway, so what interest is there to raise? And anyone else reading is probably choosing not to participate either way.

How about a theme build?

Make a custom case based on the same theme.

What's the point?

That's not creative.. Building something from scratch or modifying an existing object is.

I'm for either a Gamecube case mod because Gamecubes are cheap, plain, and we wouldn't have to demonstrate that the Gamecube still works; or a themed case mod because we wouldn't have to demonstrate the console works, and we're all on the same topic for judgement.

The one condition is that the console guts must fit inside it.. No inventing a console to build a case around.

Lets face it, as far as portablizing goes, we're all good, but we haven't really showcased any artistic flair in case design for standard consoles, let alone implement them.

I think this should be a 1 month project, because it is larger than the NES controller contest, and we should adhere to rules that if you miss the submission date, you aren't entered unless the date is extended by mutual agreement, because it's not fair on those who met the deadline, who could have used the added time to finish their projects.

It's your choices guys..

Well if design contests aren't wanted, they aren't needed. I just thought you guys would enjoy beating each other through designing the best ds-phat case mod.

How about placing the best [Place console here] inside a spherical case or a case mod using spheres. A Gamesphere, anyone?

There goes any ideas or originality. :?

Hatrix, there's only so much you can do with a consoles original case; paint... lights...

Maybe a contest where you mod the actual electronics of something would be cool?
I'd imagine right now you wish you were a cuttlefish...

I disagree... Adding plastic, cutting plastic, reshaping, and detailing can make a consoles original case quite different to the stock case.

And a Gamesphere is stupid, because in all respects, Everyone should have the same outcome, and Where would we get a sphere from to fit a console inside? Vac forming would be required, and not all of us have the equipment to do that.

Gamecubes are like £30 here, and that was prior to Wii launch, I'm sure they're cheaper by now because of the Wii, and it doesn't even have to work, as long as everything still fits inside.
iam7805 wrote:Maybe a contest where you mod the actual electronics of something would be cool?
Then we're required to have working hardware.. Even then, as a contest that's extremely vague, and has limited capabilities.. What can you do? Add LEDs and a modchip? Not really a lot for a competition..

How about taking an average object, like a stapler (since one's on the table, it doesn't HAVE to be a stapler!) and let your minds run free. The objective will be to simply "make it cool".

Insipration taken from InventGeek.com and the UV breadbox. :P
