Odd hey?
Everytime that I put my custom firmware on, there never seems to be any extra partitions. Might help that do custom installs to my 5G video, but I, have never seen anyone make partitions to install iPL. I am of course talking about Mac formmated ipods. Those crappy Windows one do, of course, need partitioning.
This is simply becuase the fat32 partition used by the WinPod can not be read using ipodlinux. Therefore, it must have an ext2 partition made.
See, I do know what I am talking about.

PS, I helped with the mac installer.
Help with Ipod Linux

...Yes it does. It creates an ext2 partition on your iPod, and modifies the firmware. The bootloader is placed in the ext2 root, not the one you see mounted on your desktop.Felino wrote:iPOd linux does not as you say, partition.
It edits the existing firmware on the iPod, and places a botloaderinside it.
This then points to the linux files on the root of the ipod.
Restore the iPod to remove it, not update. The updater will not be able to read the firmware on the iPod, it will crash.

I am not saying the restore updates it; that removes iPodLinux. Updating does not remove it, it just prevents it from booting without modifying the firmware again.
You don't know that; you're assuming that because it sounds more complicated. It's very easy for me on Windows XP; I just hit install.Harshboy wrote:Well, I assumed you meant WindowsMac installers have always been easier
The Mac installer, which I have actually used , offers very little customization, like package installation and exactly what you are putting on your iPod.

I've used the mac installer before. It's fine, though there's hardly any customization options, and you have to manually add the latest nightly anytime you want to update your Linux version by right-clicking, then going to 'show package contents'.
I thought there was some long ass process involved with adding modules? Last time I checked, there was a contest on who could write the best module loader.
