See-through window mod questions

I want to do this to my NES, and light it up with blue LEDs, and I have a few questions.

-What type of material should you use for window itself? Plexiglass or clear perspex or something else completely different? I found this on eBay. The price seems reasonable, and its big enough for my window hole. Is the thickness OK? I think 3mm is about as thin as it goes
-What would you use to actually put the window in place? Hot glue or super glue? I'm guessing not super glue, as that would make the perspex/plexiglass/whatever go cloudy.

Anyone who has done a window mod, I would appreciate some advice!

for window mods im a huge fan of lexan because it doesnt scratch as easily as plexi...

hot glue could do it and its super easy but pretty much any kind of glue that bonds to plastic works or get super fancy and use rivets on it.

Hmm...lexan...I've never heard of that...is it a particular brand or type of product? Sounds interesting...
I'll probably go ahead and try the hot glue, seeing as its easy to use and correct if you make a mistake. Heh wouldn't rivets be visible on top of the NES?

the idea of the rivets is to see them. depends on the look you want but could look cool.

well with hot glue atleast if it doesnt work its real easy to take off and try with something else.

Ah thanks for the link, that's cool! I'm planning on going for an iPod kind of look...I'm going to spray the top white, but leave the bottom, so it looks like a shinier NES...it's basically the colour I would like Nintendo to re-release the NES as

The rivets sound like a cool idea...I might fit them into another one of my mods somewhere...

it is really strong stuff and holds up to cutting and drilling a lot better then plexi. look on computer mod sites also you can get colored lexan.

Hey, I am almost 100% sure that Lexan is polycarbonate. It is just a fancy name for it. I hope you have heard of this now that you now its other name. it is also what is commonly used to encase cold cathode tubes in (darn pesky stuff, makes it so big, have to use a dremal to cut it too). it is very strong, you have to use a power tool to cut it. I think in thin sheets it can be bent as can acrylic.

As far as I'm concerned, Lexan = Plexiglass.

Actually, Lexan is a lot tougher and is a different material. Plexi has a blue tint sometimes Lexan doesn't. Like comparing Plastic to PVC.

yeah it is polycarbonate, lexan is just a brand name that makes up for most of whats out there.

for the money you wont find anything stronger or scratch resistant.

That is very right (correct, not the direction). Lexan is the main product though, it is all you will find at most places that sell items for case mods. Also, does anyone know a good place to get colored Lexan
