problems with computers sound

the sound isnt working. I have an xp, it did yesterday, and now it isnt. everything is plugged in and on WMP the sound bar is up. my sound card is on to.

Start > All Programs > Accessories > Entertainment > Volume Control

Make sure the "Volume Control" or "Master Volume" (whatever), & also "Wave" are up all the way & unmuted.

I just realized why its not working. for some reason it recognizes my 360 controller as a sound device, probably because of the microphone ext. Im not taking it out, I need to play my games with music!
