its designed to run off 12v and there is no audio amp.

How do you think Ben uses it in his Phoenix? Does it have 7805IC? Can't a speaker be wired to e.g. SNES board directly rather than the screen's board?

i believe it can run off 6 or so volts but you need to build an audio amp to get sound. there are some how tos around here...

Sure. I asked the seller. They told me that it could work at minimum 7 volts. Audio amp thing is not so difficult, I think. Is it?

Not really. Search google to find some schematics, or you could just buy an appropriate pre-assembled module.
