Firefox was being mean to me, but is a-ok now!

I have only loved and cared for Firefox, and done nothing to hurt it, and yet it thinks it can be mean to me.

Whenever I open the browser, it says:

Unable to connect

Firefox can't establish a connection to the server at www.benheck.com. (or any site, for that matter)

* The site could be temporarily unavailable or too busy. Try again in a few
moments.

* If you are unable to load any pages, check your computer's network
connection.

* If your computer or network is protected by a firewall or proxy, make sure
that Firefox is permitted to access the Web.

I can't figure out how to make it not do that anymore. My internet works fine, but I have to use Internet Explorer (

ugg). I also updated Firefox right before this all started happening.

Can you help me?

Disable Windows Firewall and see if that helps. While you're at it get a real firewall; Windows Firewall is a piece of garbage that should be destroyed.

I went to turn off Windows Firewall, but found it was already off. Hmm...

Any more suggestions?

Opera if all else fails lol. Do you have any other security apps that might not be allowing it to run ?

There IS the possibility that your disabling of the firewall has caused a flood of spy/adware, sucking up all of your bandwidth.

You kidding me? Windows Firewall is a joke! A placebo! It's about as effective at stopping malware as Notepad is. Disabling it won't make that much difference.

I have Norton on my computer (the newest one). I turned off the firewall for it and it didn't help at all.

I really think it had something to do with the new update for Firefox. The problems started the first time I loaded Firefox after the new update.

My mac has never had a firewall other then the built in one. Its still fine.

Macs rock. Get one.

I think it's funny how this topic was about someone having trouble with Firefox and yet it somehow turns into the usual Windows sucks/everybody else is better BS that plagues seemingly every computer-related thread on this site.

I have seen a couple people try to provide assistance, but it would be nice to see one of these threads pass without a bunch of this BS.

I mean hell, even Ben and I managed not to rip on the Wii in a couple of podcasts.

limpport - Since the problem occurred right after updating Firefox I think you are on the right path in that it is an issue with Firefox. I'm not sure if Firefox does any caching like IE does, but if it in fact does I'm guessing you've cleared it out? Otherwise I would completely uninstall Firefox and then reinstall as I believe someone else suggested above. Let us know how it goes.

Ok, I'm getting sick of everyone saying just get such and such. Like " just get a Mac ", or vice versa. It's not like we don't know theres other OS's out there. So it doesn't help or add to the thread at all to suggest another OS, Unless there asking for another OS or something to that effect.

I updated on 3 different PC and I'm not havening a problem.

Just uninstall Firefox and reinstall it. Should work fine then.

Rekarp, I like Macs a lot. Re-install Firefox and if that fails you, well, you're kinda screwed with IE
