Revert Windows 2000 to 98 Help Plz

Ok Im finally fed up with Windows 2000 Pro, It doesnt support my Sound Card and neither does XP, So I want to revert the OS back to the OS the computer was made for, Windows 98, mainly so I can play my 0rms with sound (Thats all I use this computer for)

But what sucks is that, Microsoft didnt put a Rollback feature to Go back to Lower OS so it wont let me downgrade.

I found a Guide on the internet saying to Make a Boot floppy and I did But When I try to Tell it to switch to C drive (My HDD) it Says "Invalid Drive Specification" Bull crap.

The Computer is a Peice of Shi* Dell Dimension with a Viper Video Card.

Help me Plz.

and does Xp have a Rollback Feature? Because I have XP and I can install that then Have it Roll back to 98, will that work?

You have to reformat the computer and start over from scratch. If DOS can't read the drive, then it's formatted for NTFS. (98 doesn't like NTFS.) Upgrading to XP then running the downgrader will just bring you back to 2000 again. The best way to go back to 98 is to start over again.

Why don't you go and spend the $20 on a decent SoundBlaster card?

What's your existing sound card? Maybe we can help track down drivers. (Honestly there's no reason for it to not work, since most sound cards are Sound Blaster compatable. It's not ISA, is it?)

I honestly dont have a clue what the Soundcard's brand is.

And how much do Better Video/Graphics Cards go for?
Because the Computer is 700mhz, so I knows its good enough to play N64 Emulators, but when I run it, it wont start up right or I will get a Black screen, most likly cuz of the Horrible Graphics card it has.

I may Accually Consider going out and getting a decent soundblaster cart.

Im a noob to Graphics cards and Sound cards so I may sound stupid when I ask this question.

Is soundblaster a Brand name, or is it just a type of Card, if its a type of Card what would you recommend I get for the cheapest (Around $20 like you said)

I think I made up my mind,
This card has a lot of Good feedback and I dont see any negetive things about it, I think it will do the job, Hell I accually think the Sound card may be dead in my COmputer anyway so getting a New one would be best, downgrading to 98 probably wouldnt do a thing.

I've actually had trouble w/ Win2K feeding somewhat-scratchy sound to my SB Audigy SE, but it's most likely a DirectX issue.

Just track down a driver or buy a new sound card. you can get a 24-bit Sound Blaster off newegg for $30 probably these days. (Audigy 1 /= 24-bit; even though the box says 24-bit, everything's brought down to 16-bit@48000)

ME and 2000 had to have been the worst OS's ever made. If i were you, buy a soundcard and upgrade to XP Home Edition (Or nLite it and cut the fat)

Why 2000? It was a great improvement from 98.

ME was horrendous, yes.

2000 was Alright but wasnt supported that long so it has problems, like with my Computer.

Ive never tried ME and from the way it sounds, its as bad or worse than Vista.

I hope Vista gets dropped like 2k and ME, cuz they are Pushing New and More powerful computers just to run it.

I have Confirmed I am buying a new Sound Card.
30 bucks and has a Ton of nice Reviews.

The sound card is a
Aureal Vortex 8830

I can't Find Drivers anywhere for it.

I wont to see if this Soundcard Still works before I go buy one, cuz I can always put my money toward a better Video card.

EDIT: I found the Drivers, I just need to install them.

Well I Installed em, and my Sound Card is dead.

Why the copulate do Sound cards die after a few year, I swear its on purpose, there is no reason for them to just die like they do.

WEll I guess Ill get this Turtle Beach Soundcard.

I don't know why everyone compares Vista to ME...honestly, Vista is awesome. My dad upgraded his 98 SE to ME (Yeah, I know. I hated him for it) I'm sure if all of you had computers which could handle Vista and had Vista somehow you'd love it (Like me)

And for your sound card issue, that card was probably junk when you got it. Only quality cards (Such as Creative) are gonna last a long time. But it looks like your only option is to get a new Soundcard and optionally upgrade to XP
