shrinking the GC disc drive

Well... I'm more familiar with SD cards, myself... and they are cheaper, but Triton's right. CF cards do work better as HDD replacements. Either way, though CF or SD... whatever will work will be awesome.

well i sure would split it but i do not seem to have mod powers in this section

lol i guess we just deal with it for now, anyone got any ideas about thinning up this sucker tho? so far if the ones i mentioned worked i can get it down to just over half an inch or so except for the lens assembly which is probably gonna be tricky

No mod powers here? Odd... sorry 'bout that. I'm sure a mod with the proper authority will come along soon enough.

I haven't gotten my Gamecube yet... though I was supposed to today. When I do, I'll take a look at the mini-DVD drive and see what else can be done.

I will also be measuring the mA draw from each individual voltage line, so I can begin working on my 7.4V replacement PSU. I'll be posting the results here, keep an eye out for the thread if you're interested!

VERY! getting it down to about 7.2-7.5v would be about perfect to run off of 2 rc car batteries (6600mah right there or more if i invest in more powerful cells) this is what i wanted to kinda get rolling, several people interested in trying to get the GC down as small as possible

on the thickness issue i have one other possible alternative idea, have the heatsink facing the disc drive and cut out a few of the ribs so there is enough room for the lense assembly to move around, that would save a little bit of depth, a bit over a quarter inch or as much as almost a half an inch i think

Heh sorry about hi-jacking your thread, triton

My line of thought was that if we got it working, it could end up smaller than the disk drive, but contain loads of games. Oh and Electric Rain, I've found a bit more info. You're being PM'd.

The heatsink flattening is a good idea...you could do what Ben did for his Wii laptop, and flatten the fins to make the drive sit more flush with the motherboard. That might make a bit of a difference.

Nice! Any work on the actual case itself, though? Like, maybe a mock-up to tease us with?
