Wii Portable: 90% done! PICS UP

If you guys haven't noticed, I've been rather inactive lately in the (hardware) mod department. School's just been too much, and I just got a job, limiting my time even further. But alas, I've missed hardware modding far too much, so I've decided to start a Wii portable (well, a chassis attachment, so its more of a modular device). Anyways, I was contemplating today wether or not a battery would be a good idea for this thing. I mean, it'd be nice, yes, but would I get enough play out of it for it to be worth it? A battery to power the Wii for a substantial amount of time will set me back at least $50 to make it worth it, and I'm not entirely sure the purchase would be worth it. How about you guys?

i think ben did not have much luck using batteries to power his wii, so i would be interested in seeing something that put out enough amps to work for a decent amount of time.

The Wii needs 12 Volts right? I don't know what the draw is on the Wii but i would assume you would need like a 8-10Ah battery to run it on (and a backpack to put this said battery in lol). If i was (and someday I shall) Id stick a big Li-ion battery in it.

For about $15 shipped on ebay, you can get a 12v 7Ah sealed lead battery that is pretty small, get 3 with your $50 to make it worth it, and you could play almost all day.

yeah ive seen SLA batteries like that... they arent really /that/ small. and they weigh about the same as a chunk of lead thats the same size... for reasons that should be obvious

They could be useful though if you wanted to play in the car and have something else in the plug...

Well, that was my initial thought, but I have a converter for the car.

It would be pretty damn cool just to have the factor to be able to whip it out anywhere and play it, though. Still think it's worth it?

Well it's totally worth it once brawl, Galaxy and Prime 3 come out but until then it's kind of pointless except for Zelda.

Yeah, it is rather pricy; I think I'm gonna build in a holder area for the batteries, and just buy a pack later on should I need one.

New question!

I've never actually been a big fan of the Gamecube, so I don't know much about it's power supply. Of the pics I've seen, it appears to have the same jack, and I know the GC also ran off 12v; would a GC power supply power the Wii?

i think the connectors are actually different but i would have to look and check. ben would probably know what the power requirements are

Well, the metal siding is bent, the front plates are cut, and the bondo for some minimal cracks is laid and drying as we speak. I've still got a little ways to go on the case, like building the small area to contain heatsinks, jacks, etc. It'll be done by the end of this week, though, no doubt. My biggest regret of my portablization career has no doubt been my cases, which always tend to look quite ugly and a bit rushed. So for this one, I've taken a good amount of time on it, and it will definitely be my best looking portable yet, and I hope it'll be one of the prettier ones out there in general.

The wiring has been a bit more time consuming than some of my other portables because, the video is being wired in *GASP* component!

It does look nice, I must admit. So unless someone should beat me to the chase, I think this'll be the first current-gen console to be portablized by someone besides Ben. Woohoo!

Oh, and about pictures; I actually took a slew of 'em just to show as a work log, but I think I'll keep this project "under-wraps" until it's 100% done, and show the WIP pics in a work-log in the News forum. Y'know, to build suspense and whatnot.

Ur crazy for making a wii portable but i guess it will turn out great.
So this is the second wii portable, thats petty big man.
