XBCD Xbox controller XP Driver help.

I've just put together an xbox usb adapter by snipping the xbox plug off the end of the "safety cord" thing and soldering that directly to a male usb plug (by color).
Then I plugged the controller in, and Windows gave me a "device is not recognized" bubble from the task bar, which is what I expected. So then I installed XBCD 1.7 and I fallowed the instructions very carefully, then after it installed, nothing happened! It says on the website that once it closes, the windows installer should come up and you need to direct it to something called xbcd.inf, which I can't find on my pc anywhere, but that doesn't even happen.

Anybody done this before and know how to help, or have any suggestions?

Did you solder the yellow wire on the Xbox controller to anything on the USB?

Ok, good. I assume you soldered the same colored wires together from the Xbox controller to the USB port?

Yes, all the same colors to it's counterpart. And shield to shield as well.

I use XBCD and I remember having to install it a few times before it worked. I use it all the time now though.

Yes it does work with the S controller

I installed the XBCD on 4 different Computers and had no trouble like yours, hmm.

Try Unplugging the Controller then Installing the Drivers and then when its finished put the Controller in, then open up XBCD setup Utility through Start menu and programs, and there you should be able to test Everything on the Controller, Including Rumble which you can use with Select PC games and the Project 64 Emulator and possibly PS1 Emulators.

Yeah just double check your Wires that you solered and make sure none are touching each other, because If you plug in the Xbox controller and dont have the XBCD drivers installed yet it should say USB HUB found, not Unknown Device or anything SImilar, a Wire may have Broken off, or you got 1 or more wires touching eachother, I recommend Putting Electrical tape around every Saudered wire.

try uninstalling the unrecognized device under your device manager. that should prompt it to try to install drivers again, which you can point to the xbcd files.

yeah, generally your'e not supposed to plug USB things in until the divers are there cause it makes weird things happen...

so do what they said. unplug it, uninstall everything, reboot, reinstall everything, plug it back in

I did, but with further research I found that that was unneeded. It still doesn't work, so I'll try everyone else's ideas.

What I did what CHopped off the Shorted cord on a Standered Xbox Controller (Not S type) and wired a USB cord to the Snipped Wires in the Inside, the only wires I didnt connect was a Thick Black Wire (Most likly ground) and the Yellow one.

Is your Controller a 3rd party one? Because I heard that this doesnt work with 3rd party controllers for some reason.

If its 3rd Party and you did everything right, then its most likly the Controller, get a First party controller to test the Breakaway cable, and if it still doesnt work well Do what I said before.

3rd party controllers work. I use my Pelican wireless Xbox Controller all the time to play. Use this to help:
