GamePark...bankrupt?

Post by Chwoka »

The company that made the GP32 and it's more famous succesor, the GP2X, who were planning to make another one, the XGP, have gone bankrupt.

Obi-wan Benheck.com forumgoer, the homebrew handheld market needs you! Are you bad enough dudes to make the next big homebrew handheld?

WRONG!
GamePark (makers of the XGP and XGP mini) are bankrupt
GamePark Holdings (makers of the gp2x) are not

I was mildly interested in the XGP line, but I'm not exactly crying about this news. I would have liked to see how the XGP, a handheld aimed at the mainstream portable market (I think), would have faired against the DS and PSP.

In related news, turns out Sony is indeed making a PSP 2, or 2.0, or mark 2, or whatever the hell you want to call it, despite the statement by Sony only months ago that the rumors of such a device were false. Word on the street is it'll have 8GB nand flash built right in.

Yeah, I heard about this. The funny thing is, they went bankrupt the day they were supposed to launch the XGP series in Korea. They just took the wrong corporate move. GP32 and now GP2x are successful because they're not mainstream devices; they fill a niche, and they do a damn good job of it. Just like the Gizmondo and the Tapwave Zodiac before it, Gamepark and its XGP line tried to play with the big boys and failed. Couldn't say I didn't see it coming.

What, ganonbanned is just saying it the way it is.

Oh, and there are a few choice areas in Mario 64 where you can get full speed with sound on the PSP- and no, I don't mean facing a blank wall  ...Now if Only StrmnNrmn (thanks vb_master) would just get around to implementing a frame skip! Why doesn't he just do it already! D=
