Best Pocket PC apps?

Well, I just got an axim X50v from my dad, and I want to get some good apps/ emu's. What are some good ones?

The X50v is a very powerful platform, seeing it has a full VGA (480x640) screen, has a 3D accelerator, and isn't bogged down by Windows Mobile 5 (like the X51v is). However, the controls suck from what I've seen, and there isn't USB host, so you pretty much have to hack up a bluetooth game controller to get decent controls for gaming, which some on AximSite have done. I might of bought one if it had USB host brought out (USB host is intergrated in the processor, but Dell didn't see fit to bring it out).

Maybe just make a plug for the contacts connected to the buttons, and then make a snes controller play on it.

Best game ever, I think I practically ruined rim of the Dpad on my X50v playing it (Tip, I like using the included stylus in the indent now, good control, but I'm not sure if it's good for it...)

There's pretty good shmup for it, but my ram got wiped, I'll have to refind it...

A note on the x5Xv series, their really great hardware and software side, but the casing is C-R-A-P! The plastic is wafer thin. Be very careful what protective hard-cases on it to (and trust me you'll need one), the opening an closing on mine slowly scrapped all the paint off one corner of mine

. Oh and NEVER unscrew the stylus top, it will never go back on straight again.

Other tips:

To save on battery life, you can turn the backlight way down, the screen seems to have reflective properties so you can take advantage of the ambient light instead of competing with it by blasting the backlight.

Also, when not playing a hi-end game (some commercial or 3d homebrew, mostly not other homebrew though) manually adjust the processor speed to the lowest setting, I have never needed the extra power.

Lastly (and this is important) save all your apps in "built in storage" or a memcard, NOT "Main memory", that's the battery backed up ram, and 1. if let the batteries die or take it out for more than 30min, all your apps go byby, 2. it will always say it needs more memory when trying to play a high end game (like age of empires).

Have fun with it, they're one of those "ahead of their time/earlygen" devices that put raw performance above all else and can do some very cool stuff, even if you need to treat it (physically) like it's made of glass. And by the way, when running at the max processor speed, the heat is normal, just don't block the small vent holes on the back and your good.

Pending the emulators allow button remapping to user input scancodes, it should work. I remapped emulator buttons to the snap-on keyboard for my Axim X5 without much trouble. I was tempted to do what you're considering, but ended up retiring my PDA before getting another snap-on keyboard to mod.
