Help me with a mold.

I'm vac forming a case. I tried a plaster brick, but it kept breaking off little corner chunks and the likes. No biggie, I thought, I'll just put some clay on it afterwards and build UP. NOTIHNG STICKS TO PLASTER!!!!! *HULK SCENE*

So I need some ideas of a good mold. I'm thinking some wood, since my case is roughly 2 rectangles with a few curves that clay can do.

Any other ideas?

MDF works well and is easy to shape. It's also pretty cheap.

For clay, I suggest Sculpey. It is soft and pliable right out of the box, and takes a long time to dry completely at room temperature. However, you can bale it for a little while and it comes out rock hard. It's sandable, paintable, and relatively inexpensive. I think it would be great for vacuum molds.

I'm planning on going to Hobby Lobby later today to go get a 1.75 lb box of Sculpey clay to fool around with. Man I haven't messed around with clay for years... Good thing you can always mash it and reshape it

I decided to go with a wood block (2 wood blocks) and have lots of modelling clay to put over it. Let's hope it works out well.

Second problem: I cut the bigger piece 1/8 inch too small. Would a clump of 1/8 clay stay put while it dries?

I don't know too much about vac forming, but i'd say layering some MDF would work good.

for the plaster, bondo stuck to my molds well, also my mom had some putty called i think it was durhams strong putty. i put an entire new layer on my GCp mold and made it really smooth and even ( after i made the portable though )

But that means you could do a pull for members of the forum and hand out free cases for people's birthdays, right?

Seriously though, ever thought of selling a case or two? I'll bet there are some people who would pay for a nice Portendo case

Didn't want to make a new thread for a related topic, even though it's a different item.

Is MDF wood that's easy to carve or something? Is it softer like dense stryofoam? Examples of it's stability and density?

More specifically, could I lathe it without bits flying off from centrifugal force? and carve squares out without trouble? Possibly with a router.

mdf is a man made soft wood thats not very strong thats about all i know of it.

yeah but if i sold cases it would probably be more $ than someone would want to pay and mounting all of the stuff inside could still be a hassle for somebody if they didn't have any experience
