Microphone help!! Please!

Hi everyone! I'm borrowing a microphone from my school. It came with the Canon XL2. It seems the microphone needs power to work though. It has two jacks at the end of the wire- one stereo 3.5mm one (For sound) and one 2/32 (I think) one for power (I think).

Does anyone know how much power it needs? How much power does the average condenser microphone (I think that's what it is) need?

I'm not sure if this is the right forums to ask this, but what the heck? (haha, heck. Funny, i know.)

Usually condenser mics can handle anywhere from 11v to 52v. I have some gear that outputs 48v phantom power and it works well.

So 11 is the lowest? Are there any website that have the right voltages? Also, is the tip of the jack positive or negative?

You'll have better luck searching for a 1/16 jack.

Actually, I just found out that it's actually 3/32, not 2/32.

I wouldn't try building your own Phantom PSU for it. I suppose you could, but I would just get something like this and an adapter cable. But if you want to build your own, here's a few schematics you can choose from.

They're actually very simple... but... Anyway, Google will turn up more for you. Come to think of it... yeah, you should be using a preamp for a mic like that anyway. Otherwise you won't hardly get any signal from the thing. Something like this, maybe. Hope this helps.
