My neXD

Post by Bibin »

I've begun to work on a Nes Portable from a Super fun joy doom games power advanced 8-bit game doom thing.

All I've got so far is concept art and an LCD. It's NOT the PS1 one, it's slightly larger.

Sorry for just about the worst picture ever of SMB.

Now, to take an idea from some other humans, here's all I need vs got.

LCD screen
Design Idea
Tools
Power Play thing

Case materials

Spare Nes controller
Newer LCD (I'd rather not rip this one from it's current location)
More case materials
Paint

To imagine how thick this is, grip 2 nes carts stacked in your hands and add one full pad of stickynotes regular size. For height, take a NES cart and controller (small part) height.

For width, take a NES controller and add on .5 inches.

The great thing about this is a great big screen. I couldn't handle a tiny 3" screen on a big box like this.

Bah, the size isn't too bad for a NES portable that takes carts without having them jut out.

Yay, I got a power fun joy super game doom thing, now I just need a famicom-to-Nes adapter. I heard this can be done with two floppy-drive IDE cables, true?

I like the pixel art!

As for the design, I always like to think a bigger screen is always better, but if you need to get a smaller one check around on Ebay and get a PSOne screen, since they are quite cheap. You could also check some of the game stores around, some of those places have off-brand PSOne screens even cheaper. Of course, if you get an off-brand one you will need to work a little harder to figure out how to hack it, but that shouldn't be a problem.

Naw, this one's pretty easy to hack, and it's a tiny bit bigger than the PSone one. I suspect LED modding it won't be too hard, but I have NO idea how to difuse the light properly and where to place the LED's.

Well, experiment. The case around the glass plates for the screen is metal right? Just aim the led to reflect the light off the side and see if it will cover a good portion of the screen. Maybe you will need two.

I don't know much about this though, just saying it might work. Give it a try, maybe you will need to try a few different ways before you find the "right" way to do it.
