PIC burning Libretto

OK, thinking of buying my self a toshiba Libretto to do my PIC burning on, or some of other old laptop, how good is support for windows 95 / 98, and can I bild a PIC programmer with a DC input? as laptop serial ports are only 5v....

Any suggestions? Anyone willing to sell their libretto?

Fairly easy to just take a std. pic burner design and connect up a regulator. IIRC the JDM I have uses diodes to get power, but can also use a 5V in source like USB.

yeah thats pretty well the one marshall has on his site. you do need something like 13v on the MCLR pin *technically* to program pics. i built that and it runs fine on my desktop, probably running off 8-10 v...

if you needed to you could probably just feed the mclr signal through a transistor hooked up to another power supply. or else you can run it through something like a MAX232 to crank it up to 10v

Thats what I mean before, laptops usually have around 4-5v, not the usual 12v.
