Includes but not limited to: SNES, Genesis, Sega CD, PlayStation 1, Nintendo 64, Dreamcast, Game Gear and I guess the Virtual Boy.

Build a Rumble pak into a N64 controller

Post by Jongamer »

Has anyone tried to build a Rumble pak into a N64 controller? I know its not possible from the power supplied to the controller, but what if somone were to rewire the controller and leech power off the mother board.

Only problem now would be that the controller would be pretty much Hardwired into the System.

i have a nyko rumble pack that leaches power from the controller that you could do it with, it would be kinda neat to try but i dont have that many n64 controllers to try it with

Didnt know that was possibel, its only 3.3 v for the Controller. Unless its like a gentle rumble using low voltage. Hmm weird

The 2 AAs in a normal rumble pak only provide 3v.
I think the N64 doesn't give enough amps to the controller to allow for good rumble. If you were building it into a portable you could leech off the 3.3v line because that would give it all the power it needs.

i did a battery-free mod to my n64 rumble pack a long time ago. it was definitely weaker than it was with the batteries, but it still worked.

I will try to add this to my portable and see how it does. I might add two rumble motors near each side that way the person holding it gets the full effect. That is if I have space to add these, I am probably just going to try one of these. Also, would it be possible to do this and have amamory card, too. just another wild thought.

I tried it about a year ago, hollowed out the 2 side prongy grips to put batteries in and put an onld ps1 rumble in the middle prong, all inrenally hooked up to the memory card slot. Was butt ugly but worked quite well. Nicer to hold than the normal pak as it wasn't as top heavy.
