My Radica sounds wierd.

Includes but not limited to: SNES, Genesis, Sega CD, PlayStation 1, Nintendo 64, Dreamcast, Game Gear and I guess the Virtual Boy.

My Radica sounds wierd.

Post by Bibin »

I have the first version of the Radica sega doodad thing.

Some oddities!!!

The "FWWHOISH!" sound in the start sounds odd when I hit reset.

Most notable in games like sonic, the sound is distorted.

Also, the square wave, noise-sound generating PSG is very, very quiet. I can barely hear the jump sound and little bits of the music.

Anyone else's do this?

It's probably just due to the roughness of the sound encoder. If I remember, I had these problems too. Anyways, the Genesis uses a YM2612 (Yamaha) primary sound chip and a SN76489 (TI) secondary sound chip. You can imagine how lame the sound can become when all is packed in to one chip.

This is probably a long shot here, but do you visit TDC by any chance? If not... then whatever.

I knew that name was familiar! How did you find Benheck if you don't mind my asking?

Been looking around for a long time actually. I was googling around because I was really bored, and was looking for some way to portabalize my sega. Now, I didn't know about any Radica at that point, but when I bought one I thought, "HEY, I BOUGHT ONE!", but a more important thought would be "HEY! IT'S A TINY SEGA! YOU NEED A CARTRIDGE SLOT LITTLE BOY!" Except less... retarded...

After already doing this to my Atari 50-games-in-one native-hardware thing, I thought this would be cool to do.

Wow! That is what you call coincidence. Well I hope you enjoy this community as much as I do. I think you'll find that we're much friendlier here than at TDC.

BTW, you only need to click the 'submit' button once. ;)

Still doesn't answer the fact that the PSG is nearly silent.

I'm not talking about distortion anymore.

Probably because the op-amp is damn weak. Install a second one.
