PS2 laptop

I know that portable PS2's have been made by Ben but I have been looking at how I could make one of the old fat PS2's any slimmer and how slim they can be made. The disc drive is my only problem. I can handle everything else. I would like to know how I would go about making the disc drive slimmer.

I know what I am doing, except I was wondering if the drive that comes with it could be slimmed down any more than I have it now and I do have funds for the project but they are somewhat limeted. I have slimmed down the drive in it some by removing some of it's massive casing and relocating some of the chips in it. I have the skill to do this but I just had a simple question about how much slimmer I could make it and if any.

currently I have removed about half an inch from it and half the drive is outside of it's remaining casing.

I have moded PS2's before so the soldering I can do and I think I have made it slim enough but I was wondering if anyone could tell me some cheap plans on how to replace it with a laptop drive.

Well I don't think you can modify the one the one it comes with. You may be able to replace it with a laptop drive or something though...

Everything does not HAVE to be a laptop. I just think that in my case it makes more sense to have a flip up screen to save a little space since there will be extra space in my design. I did not want to have the screen get easily damaged. Anyway I am building this on special request to be a gift if it all goes well, if not I STILL GET TO KEEP IT

This is no longer going to be a gift

. That is out and this means I might finish sooner and I might let it sit around for a year or so.

I have decided it is not going to be a laptop to save money, time, and I can make it smaller if it is not a laptop since I will be using the large PS2 as originally anticipated.

Meh. As long as you can solder and follow simple instructions, it's not hard. Don't listen to them.

But seriously... you'd better at least be able to solder..........

I can solder fine. I just wanted some opinions. I am going to be working on it a while since my budget is, well, low at the time. I have the system but still need the screen. Anyway I am putting this on hold and building an N64p or as I am going to call mine a SS64 (Super-Small N64). It is not going to be a laptop and I am going to keep it for myself so I can play Zelda OOT wherever I want.

Sweet. I'm working on an N64P as well. Oh, are you aiming for a particular size? PM me if you don't want to reveal the ub3r small dimensions to the world yet.
