WTB/WTTF Compact Flash card

I've recently acquired a fully working iPod Mini with the hopes of converting it to a completely solid-state flash player. So I need a Compact Flash card that is at least 4GB, but 8GB would be preferable!

I'm not really sure on pricing, but to be honest, I'd rather trade (see my iPod Parts page)

PS- If this project is successful, I will have a 6GB Microdrive for sale, or I could just trade the drive for the CF card if anyone is interested...

well the only one I have is a 2 GB flash card, how much would you want for it.

I was planning to do the same with the iPods I'm getting from sgtpepper (great trader, BTW), so tell me if it works or not. I might want a couple unboughten (<- rape of the English language) cards, at least 2GB, but give sgtpepper first dibs.

4GB for $30 It might have problems working in it though.

I've read that it needs to be higher speed than that (that one is 45x). I think 80x or more was recommended, or something like that

I hadn't seen that, since it was posted online yesterday (I just noticed I was writing 2-27-07 all day, but its the 28th). The one I had seen was using another microdrive, so that new one helps more. How do you know if the CF card is ATA compatible?

EDIT: Answer to my ATA question, it says if it can on Newegg.

I've found a few cards on Amazon here, here, and here, but probably the first two are the only ones worth buying. They speeds are 120x, 80x, and 45x, respectively. If all else fails, there is always ebay...

Where does it say that 80x and up are best? Don't iPods fill their RAM with the next songs, so that the hard drive isn't spinning the whole time? So that wouldn't have to be blazing fast, would it? You might notice slight lag if you jump to songs that aren't within the next few of your playlist, but who cares? I think I'll get the $30 4gig I posted, I'm used to lag anyways, try 3 XP user accounts opened at once with 512MB of RAM, that is lag.

Well now I can't find where I read that, I guess it's worth a shot to try it, worst case scenario, you can return it! And yes you're right it has a RAM cache of 32MB to dump songs onto.

I think I'll get dshacker's 2GB card, and if the ipods don't like it, I'll use it for a solid-state disk in a laptop.
