Gamecube memory cards. What's good?

Post by Kyosho »

Aside from building portables, I'm not much of a console gamer, to be honest. I prefer PC games. Anyways, I recently acquired a gamecube from Super Cameraman in a trade, and am finally going to get around to playing it. But I need a memory card. In the past, with other systems (PSX, PS2, etc), I've had problems with bad memory cards. So, instead of just buying whatever is cheap, I figured I'd ask you guys. Seeing as I know nothing about this stuff myself.

What brands are good, and reliable? What amount of storage space will I need? I doubt I'll have many games at first (5 or less), so a TON of space isn't needed, but enough that if I wish to expand my game collection, I can continue using the same memory card.

I'd go with first-party Nintendo memory cards, but my understanding is that their storage capacity is quite small. Any advice?

i think first party cards have varying amounts of memory. i prefer the 1st party one. i think the amount of memory corresponds with the color.

i have a black one that been great. held about 7 games so far and still isnt full
i know there are some third party ones that hold ridiculous amounts of games. My friend has one but it corrupted one time

I thinks its 51, 251, and 1051 blocks that first parties come in, or at least about that.

I have a first-party 251, with about 15 gamesaves on it with plenty of storage left. I know you already said you plan to get first party, but do not under any circumstances get a third-party; too many of my friends have had their cards go bad.

1st party all the way. It sucks losing hours and hours of game saves just because you saved $15 on a memory card. Ive had a few PSX cards corrupt on me back in those days.

I have a 3rd Party 1051 memory car (It may be better) Im pretty sure its made by Datel that make AR, the Memory card hasnt failed me yet, and I've been useing it for years, and I rent tons of games yet I still havnt filled it up, I aso have a 2 1st party 51 memory cards, 2 51 3rd party memory cards, and 2 first party 251, and a AR memory card (Doesnt save any thing But cheats)

and the only memory card that ever corrupted on me, was my First party 51 memory card, and I think the 51 3rd party, none of the others have done anything to my info.

I have the one that came with AR, it's held up well, considering it hasn't failed once and I've had it for almost as long as my GC. I have maybe 100+ saves on it... not really sure, I don't use the Gamecube that often.
Shhh! I'm not officially back yet.
