DS Phat/MP3 mod
Ok this is gonna be my first DS mod, and ATM moment it doesnt seem Hard at all.
What I plan to do is, with a DS phat, take the Caseing around the top screen and find which side has the wi-fi Anntenna and which one doesnt, and fit a Zen nano plus MP3 player into the Area below the Speaker, and haveing the LCd screen come through a hole that im gonna cut out through the top of top screen caseing (The side with the Nintendo Logo and the side that DOESNT have the screen)
and then wire the the Song switch skipper and Selector up near Slot 1, then I was going to desolder the Headphone jack off the MP3 player and wire it to the DS headphone jack through the Henge where the Top screen connects to the mobo, but before that I was gonna add a switch to switch between the DS Internal Speakers or the Headphone jack, what type of switch should I use?
And since my MP3 player has a mic built into it, I was gonna desolder that off the MP3 mobo and wire it to the DS's built in Mic, and I might wire it to the Mic jack next to the Headphones but I dont see really any use for that.
Then I need to figure out what type a risistor I need to change the Current from the DS battery to run my MP3 player with runs on a single 1.2v 750 mAh AAA battery, which I will also wire through the henge, so what type of resistor should I use?

Dude, give a post one day before bumping it. The only reason I saw this thread before now is because I checked at school.Jongamer wrote:Hmm guess no one Is interested because its got some Originality.
You posted this in the "Case Construction" section, so maybe everyone interested has already posted there.

1st, I have a red DS phat. It's pretty. I can't see why you would try to cram a mp3 player in 'er.
2nd, The added bulkiness of the system from the mp3player would make the already wide DS much thicker and top heavy. (which might be a good thing, seeing that the phats are already bottom heavy)
3nd, when people go after modern rap, they sound like the anti-rock folks in he 50s and 60s.

@dshacker
ya That was I was basially planning on doing, and I never planned on really moving anything inside the DS, hmmmm, this is starting to get quite complicated, Since the LCD screen and memory of the Zen MP3 player can be removed, I could rewire that, but It would take a lot of time and be complicated.

This if the first time I've seen this post...
Just a word.
This project isn't possible.
Both sides of the top of the screen have something in them.
1 has the controller for the top screen and connection for the one speaker.
The other has the wifi antenna and connection for the other speaker.
So you either sacrefice your top screen and have a non-working DS, or sacrefice your speaker and have no wifi...

Hmm thats what I was thinking, I think I might Scrap the Idea, seems like its starting to get out of my league here.vskid wrote:I agree, unless you want a tumor on the top of your DS, its not gonna turn out how you want.EnterTheHatrix wrote:This project isn't possible.

Unless there is just enough room, which I kinda Dought, I could have the LCD display popping out of the Caseing, and I'll will put something in between the Wi-fi Anntenna and the MP3 player so nothing shorts.

There's one alternative...
Hard wire in the speaker to remove the wifi antenna, and relocate the wifi antenna to somewhere else inside the DS.
This only gives you a very small space.. You got a picture of the MP3 player?
You could hook up the one speaker to the MP3 player, and have sound via that.
