Help me with this screen! (Was "Does this...accept RGB&

I don't have much to work with. There's an ebay auction for a screen (In Ontairo! Woot!) that ends in 15 days unless it gets bought. It is for this:

You are Bidding on used, tested and working INSIGNIA 7' MINI DVD LCD SCREEN, as pictured.

This 7' 16:9 LCD widescreen display can be used for a IS-PD040922 Portable DVD player.

The problem is, it is ONLY the screen, moreso, the top half of the dvd player.
Here are my questions:

1) Can the top half be used as a screen without the bottom half?
2) Can anyone with more experience with DVD players give me some info about he guts and such.
3) This player accepts composite in. Will it work with just the top half?
4) If I get this anyways, can I pawn it off on one of you guys if I can't get it work?

You should ask the company for a pinout.

There's a good chance that the screen and the DVD player both use composite video. That's the case with most players I've seen. If you see a quartz crystal with a frequency of 3.57MHz or a multiple, you KNOW it takes composite or s-video. You can usually hunt around for datasheets for the video decoder ICs.

So on a DVD player, the top half CAN work independently from the bottom half? The circuitry is in the top and such?

Note: I notice this screen has the screen slightly offset. I read in a topic sometime ago about this having to do with it accepting composite in. I think there's pictures of this general type of DVD player, if someone could help me dig it up, I'd appreciate it.

One of the examples (the MAXsavers one) is the kind I'm getting. It will work right?

Well I got it. And I see some markings on the pcb. But I don't see any chip that looks like an encoder chip. I know this screen accepts video in, but does it need a seperate board in the DVD portion to convert it to the singal the DVD player uses? I have a board I can use for that, if that's the case.

I don't see an encoder chip anywhere either. That particular setup may require the board from the lower part of the DVD player to get video into the LCD.

I'd say you're pretty much screwed. There's no circuitry on there apart from a few passives, looks like it takes in some kind of RGB from the dvd player. Inputting conventional RGB to it is a hopeless battle.
You're better off selling it any buying another one. And about the screen being offset - that just means the backlight inverter is on the side of the LCD, nothing to do with composite video.

Looks like the manufacturers are cutting more corners.

Well I've already decided to sell it. I'll probably put it up tomorrow, if for some odd reason someone wants to buy it.
