Very Strange PS2 Controller?!

Hi guys i have an Official PS2 controller that came with one of my PS2s and i took it apart and found a weird thing that looks like a new button here it is:

I have no idea what it is(its between Start and Square) Anyone have an idea?

What do you mean resistance what is that and what would happen if it was pressed in game like if i made a button for it. What i thought it could do is bring up info like fps ,polygons per second and such for debugging maybe but thats a wild thought i might just make a button and see what it does. Cheers^_^
