The really good ones are made of cedar (and thus smell nice too). Often you can find them at flea markets and sometimes at places that sell cigars (such as tobacco stores or even beer distributors) although they aren't as frequently sighted anymore due to more companies using cardboard to package their product. Older ones can be worth serious money.

Yeah I've seen these particular cigar boxes a lot, pinhole cameras, portables, etc. I want one! I've been looking for something to use for my NESp, maybe this is a good option to look into.
