how to convert .mkv files.

Hey,

I want to convert a .mkv file into a mpg file to make into a DVD.

I have searched google extensivly and all the guides are confusing. Also they all say use virtual dub mod, but my copy gets an error when I try to open the .mkv file in VDM.

how can I make a .mkv file into an .avi?

what are MKV. videos used for?

video files. they supposedly have 2 audio streams (Not running at the same time of course).

I usually use vegas to change the encoding. but Vegas don't like .mkv files

mkv is merely a container, the video/audio/subtitles inside are still in their original format and can be split from it. http://www.bunkus.org/videotools/mkvtoolnix/

I used that media coder program and It only did the video. How do I get audio?

Ok, Now I have an Audio problem. I need a program that can convert a .m4a file into an MP3 so that I can re join the audio and video in Vegas.

Does anyone know of a good program?

Can you play m4a's in Winamp? If so, you could always just play it with the Nullsoft Disk Writer plug-in... I think. *tests it* Erm, well, it's not working for me... right now.

But, my computer's a piece of crap anyway. Give it a shot. If that doesn't work, try Audacity... dunno if that handles m4a's either.

I encoded it with VLC media player. it seams to work fine.
