Gearing up to mod a PSP.
Earlier today I bought a damaged PSP off ebay with the intention of installing a mod chip on it. All the info that I've come across has indicated that it is a complete PITA to install due to the nature of the solder connections that are required to be made. To that end, I've been practicing making similar connections on an old video card. I'm getting pretty good at it, but I'm nowhere near ready. I'm going to keep practicing for a while before giving the actual installation a try. Below are some pics of the soldering I did on the video card. The first one isn't great due to lighting, but some of you out there will appreciate the second and third ones. 7 wires, no shorts....priceless. I've still got a long way to go though.

*whistle*...damn nice solder job...you keep on doing that and the PSP mod will be cake. Just to make it easier, do what you're doing, when you take off the solder mask, JUST scrape off ENOUGH for the one wire...less chance of the solder treading to another trace...of course the PSP ones are extremely close together (I think closer than the ones on the card. Try going on the MaxConsole forum's unofficial UP forum for some tips on soldering this bad boy, but at the rate you're going I think you are the help! Keep up the good work!

These are the traces leading to the NAND.
The picture is WAY bigger than a PSP motherboard is in real life.
Now from what I can see, the lead spacing on that PCI card is a lot more than it is on the PSP motherboard.
Retromaster, I could do that (and I have done that as well), you are just pissed at me because I don't like you.

WWWOOOOAAAHHHH.......I didn't mean to offend you, and i'm not pissed with you, but I mean.....I have seen some other people with good soldering. you aren't the only one in the world. I've seen a video of a kid soldering a surface mount board.vb master wrote:Retromaster, I could do that (and I have done that as well), you are just pissed at me because I don't like you.

VB, that's some damn tiny soldering! I assume you're using some sort of magnification tool?
