OK, Pictures.

I've cut the case now and layed out with masking tape how it's going to be... I've taken one or two concept measurements and it seems like it will fit OK, but you never know..

Now I'm off to go and fill in those gaps and start shaping the finish.

I made a mistake...

I cut off the corners below the controller buttons, but I've changed my mind, so I'm gluing them back on..

I sanded and sanded, but I put too much pressure down and I cracked one of the speaker sides where I cut it.

So now I need to grind off the P40 and apply it on more than just the inside.. I need to put it on the edges and in the gaps and on the front.

I may need to drill new holes for the speakers because I've filled in most of the holes already, but no worries.

New pictures coming up...

I've sanded and filled and sanded, but it cracked again under the strain or sanding.. It's only noticable when I flex the plastic, so I should be OK..

I've cut the pieces for the back of the case, so now I'm going to start putting the mobo and stuff inside the case so I can start laying out the measurements and then attach everything..

When I designed this, one thing I completely forgot about was how thick the audio headset port actually is, and how fat the screens are, so it probably will be fatter than the picture is, but it will look good hopefully.. Fingers Crossed.

Pictures:

The front panel fully sanded, or mostly... I just have to paint, fill in any little gaps.

The layout of the back of the case.

Since taking that picture I've desoldered more of those ports and P40'd the middle section of the back together.. In about 20 minutes I'll take the masking tape off and put more on the front side, then sand, then P38, and sand some more.

Crap! This is one amazing mod. When done you should submit it to some DSmagasines or something. Very nice indeed.

I need to think up a name for it.. Any suggestions?

DVD box is a little too flexible and smooth.. I've had to rip apart the back, reset the positions, and score the DVD box surface.. I still have my doubts about it being nice.

I'll wait for the center of the back piece to dry, then I'll do the front again, do more sanding and then I'll mount the shoulder buttons.

I'm pretty sure that he can jerry-rig something up. It's just a switch inside doing that, right?

If you wanted to go all out on this, you could vacuum form the case, but maybe you could do that for revision 2. Still looks cool, a DS lite should make it even smaller, but again, it could wait for revision 2. :)

Well if this is good, then I'll consider a V2 on DSlite..

I'm not fussed about sleep mode..

From what I can tell, it's triggered by a magnet from the speakers to go into sleep mode.. There's no triggers.

I was thinking of calling it DS Card, but I'll keep my reservations on the name until it's finished, since this isn't cardlike.

I'll assemble the DS on the one half and do all the wiring and fingers crossed the DS still works after all of this desoldering.

Then from there I'll finish the back of the case..
