PS2 HDD portable?
hey, i am going to start saving up the money to build a ps2p. i figured if im going to do this portable right, slap a modchip in there and get a HDD to put copied games on. i am worried about power consumption, though. what im proposing is to completely take out the DVD drive and get games onto the ps2 by way of copying to a computer then to the ps2. i figured i could also do this with DVD's that i wanted to play and various emulators. I just wanted to ask: what do you guys think? would it work? and i also would like to know whether or not i could use a laptop ATA6 hard drive for space conservation.

Well, to use an HDD in a portable would mean you'd have to use the old PS2, which means it'd be very hard to wire up and cram into a case comfortably if it wasn't a laptop, not to mention it'd be just a hard project in general as far as electronics are concerned. And you also need that huge network adapter hanging off the back. In short, it's doable, but it'd be tricky, not to mention large. Good luck.

sorry forgot to say id be using the XCM HDconnect wire http://www.modchipstore.com/XCM-HD-Conn ... 16279.html (the link given i believe is out of stock but its just there for visual reference) to connect the HDD to the PS2. theres no way in hell id even consider purchasing #1 an old chunky ps2 and #2 that god awful conglomeration of peripherals that makes you able to use a HDD and network

you should be able to run a laptop HDD off of this but I would ask Mod chip store as they should know if it is possible. I fthey don't have an answer I would see if you could contact the manufactuer. If you have a spare laptop HDD laying around I would try it because it should not hurt anything if it doesn't work.
If you need a laptop drive try going to http://www.newegg.com
