I dont know high school was a pain in the ass when I went, it only got easy in 12th grade.

As for my favorite job. For a summer I work at the local cable network (its called Macomb Cable Network, MCN for short) and it cant get any easier. Get paid $7 an hour to work for 5 hours a week, all sunday night. Only thing better would be me working as a craftsman in Greenfield Village, that would be paradise.

anyway, what did you do?

That reminds me, I once answered the phone for a few days during the summer, but they had nothing else for me to do. I ended up spending much of my time redesigning GP32 theatre since the old layout sucked. Quite fun, really, especially since I got paid for doing what I would do at home anyway

I had a job to do while I was there at times, but I got all but about 3 pages done in the 2 1/2 days. Got the highest paycheck after all that time, too

I was the Sudio Graphics Operator, a fansy name nothing more. Really all I did was make some simple graphics for displying on a screen on the set when we had a guest and I changed it so they could see the video when we went to one. I was originally going to be the Video operator, I would pop up graphics and change what camera angle was seen and things like that, I wish I could have dont that.

Lol, that reminds me of my school where if you're even a little bit computer literate (You know how to do more than start msn...) you're pretty much considered god. What I mean is you get all this respect for making simple graphics and stuff like that. (Exept I didnt get paid...)

One of my teachers and I are going to be setting up a small LTSP area in one of the classes in the next few weeks to show how the school can use a managed linux system that can replace all those nasty windows/novell liscensing fees (over $50,000 a year or so

My dads company was using a slew of linux servers (which rocked) but recently they switched over to windows servers.

I asked him why and he said he dosnt know, but now the company not only has to pay M$ tons of money, but the servers are crap and they break more. Also they hired a M$ guy whos just stupid. </rant>

LTSP was my senior project, and my research paper was about the benefit of open source software in schools. My proposition was denied because I was the only one there who knew how it worked though.

yeah, we tried to get our school to realise the benefits last year because they were planning on buying (and did) a lot of program keys and new computers, but they said that unless we could setup a working version for them to check it out they wouldn't. Too bad they didn't give us any machines to work with. Now we're using the old machines from last year that they aren't using to test it out

back at my school in the states, we had a TV Studio. The students did everything a small cable station did. Graphic designers, switchers, audio patches, audio board, video patchers, switching, the scrolling text on a mirror that anchors read, camera men, blue screen operators, recorders, Directors, DVD authors (for past shows), our own private computer network for video editing (was hooked up to its own private internet server). I did everything at least once and people eventually started to specialize after that. I stayed with camera, anchor, graphics, and audio. I tried switching once, and instead of a weather map we got the feedback from a VCR so the person looked like he was moving matrix style with craploads of afterimages. That was fun because all of our shows (save for special segments) are live.
Anyway, I also wanted to say that the worst job I ever had was indeed my first paying job. That sucked donkey balls.
I had to work for a Knights of Columbus setting up for parties and weddings and such. I was told that I would never do toilets and they put me on toilets like the first day. That and people would give me theri jobs to do and just play around or something. I hated it and I only got paid minimum wage. And my hours sucked. Like every weekend for a good 10-11 hours a day. Never during weekdays.
After that I got a job (a year or so later) at a local Japanese resturaunt. Awsome food and my girlfriend (who was Japanese) hooked me up with that one. Then broke up... Anyway, the job was allright, you get free food sometimes. What sucked about that was that they would yell at you for doing something slightly wrong. If you just had gotten your hands full of dishes they would yell at you for not having put them in the sink yet. Or ask you to do something else and yell why are you wasting with dishes when their needs are not fulfilled. I blamed my mothers health for being unable to continue work (thank you mom for getting sick, not really she is fine now but a scare a while ago).
And then I landed the BEST DAMNED JOB EVER. I used to work out at a gym every day. The guy liked it, said I was a good image to the gym and offered me 7.50 USD starting pay for 5hours a day. Worked for a good 3 months with a raise almost every month ended up getting paid 9.00 USD an hour for 5-6 hours a day. And all I did was talk to people, clean a machine, vaccume here and there, towels, work out, and be nice. Awsome.
I kinda got off topic but that is my history of work. With the first two that sucked balls to the last. So remember kids, the first few jobs will suck, but hang in there and you will find something you love.
