Computer Problem

Hello, I have a computer that I just built and it has a problem. Every time we boot it up, after 45 seconds or so, it shuts down. It doesn't matter if we are in the bios or not, it just shuts down. Here's my configuration:

-Asus P5n-e 650i LGA775 Motherboard
-Intel Core 2 Duo e6600
-Western Digital 250gb
-Patriot ddr2-800 2x512mb RAM
-BFG Tech 7600gt
-Windows Vista Home Premium
-Rosewill 550 Watt PSU
-Thermaltake Tsunami Case

We already RMA'd the motherboard, but what do you guys think the problem might be. We haven't even had the time to install Vista, so I dont think Windows is the problem. Anyway, I would appreciate your input on the matter.

is the heatsink seated alright. is the heatsink fan plugged in?

Could the PSU not be providing enough power or be defective?

depends, it could also being not enough wattage from the power supply. Sometimes that can happen, there can be many flaws to a computer.

Did you put thermal grease between the heatsink and CPU if the heatsink didn't come with a thermal pad? Might also be a driver problem.

Well, I do have enough thermal paste, the fan is plugged in, and the power supply might be defective. I got it from a friend, and its the only used part of the computer. Anyway, the motherboard should be back today, so I will see if that helps.

I have the same processor. Is the heatsink and fan certified by Intel for the processor? My E6600 runs at 80ÂºF with the stock heatsink and fan (not OC'd).

Also my PSU has the less watts and supports the mobo + proc, 2 hdd's, 2 dvd's, and 1 PCI-E.

Maybe it scared of running Vista

try raising the CPU voltage .1v or .2v, that fixed mine when it kept resetting every 2 minutes

Hey, that power supply was fine when I sold it to you!

Vb is right, vista is scary.

Shouldnt this be in Technical Question forum? because thats where I see most computer related problems.I say, get rid of Vista unless you really want it, because right now Vista is nothing but a CPU hog and peice of crap.

I swear Microsoft, purposly made Vista to be a major CPU hog, so they could push the Development of faster CPUs, which is going to cost us more to buy computers.

The Mac side, but I dont like how they advertise and their rude remarks toward M$, (AKA: Bill gates runs like a girl) Mac is just upset because M$'s Windows 95 and 98 and XP Kicked Mac's ass, and they can't admit it, thats why I dont own a Ipod, I own a Zen MP3 player.

Check that you have the PSU set to 115W/V, or w/e it is, if you live in the US.

Actually it should be faster than XP because it's built on the Server 2003 kernel.

I'm his neighbor, he's working on it right now. If it goes wrong he has to send the RAM, CPU back.

My HTPC runs between 21 and 33 degrees Celsius depending on what it's doing. (That's between about 70 and 85 degrees Fahrenheit.) High-res videos and bigger games run hotter than music and emulators.

Is the CPU cooler set flat on the processor? Not-good stuff happens when it sits crooked.

Vista is a gimmick. It's shiny and colorful but untested in the corporate market and about as safe to use as Service pack 2. What I hate is the fact that it shoves DRM down your throat. Hardware and media files are compromised because of all the digital rights management. (Go read this: http://www.theinquirer.net/default.aspx?article=36570 ) Vista Home Basic = XP Service Pack 3. Vista Home Premium and up = XP service pack 3 + 15 gigs of shiny bull. Keep it if you want, but XP is still the best choice for the average Joe Sixpack with the average Wally World stock PC.

@ vb_master: Doesn't Server 2003 run the same kernel as XP Pro and Home (and 2000)? I thought it did. (Well, it's NT 5.2 rather than 5.1...)
